peptic ulcer treatment

  peptic ulcer treatment

A peptic ulcer is a common chronic disease with a cyclic course, accompanied by the formation of an ulcer of the wall of the stomach or duodenum 12. Statistical studies show that about 5-10% of the world's population suffer from ulcers during their lifetime.

The causes of the disease are divided into 3 groups: genetic factors, neuropsychic and alimentary (as a result of malnutrition).

Often, peptic ulcer disease can occur along with diseases of the internal organs - chronic diseases of the lungs, liver, or pancreas.

Also, the cause of the disease can be taking certain medications, irregular eating, fast, hasty food, abuse of spicy, rough, or irritating food, smoking, drinking alcohol.

Nervous - mental stress, overwork, and stress also contribute to the formation of peptic ulcer disease. By inheritance, the disease is not transmitted, but only a predisposition to it.

The clinical picture of duodenal ulcer disease is very different from the clinical picture of gastric ulcer. It depends on the presence of complications, the phase of the course of the disease, the sex, and age of the patient, the localization of the ulcer.

The main clinical manifestation of the disease is, as a rule, the cyclical nature of its course: after the phase of exacerbation of the disease, the phase of its remission follows. At the time of an exacerbation of a peptic ulcer, there is usually a characteristic pain in the upper abdomen, heartburn, vomiting, constipation, belching, impaired appetite, depression, or increased irritability.

In most cases, the onset of pain depends on food intake. By the nature of the pain, they are divided into early, late, night, and "hungry".

With a stomach ulcer, pain occurs about half an hour to an hour after eating. For duodenal ulcer - one and a half - two and a half hours after eating.

Nocturnal pain is usually more severe than daytime pain and often ends with vomiting, which brings relief. Such pains are called "hungry", as they disappear after eating a meal - a cookie, a glass of milk, and more.

In the spring and autumn period or under the influence of unfavorable factors (drinking alcoholic beverages, stressful situations, etc.), the disease proceeds for a long time and with exacerbations.

The main sign of perforation of the ulcer is a sharp and sharp pain in the upper abdomen, and then the pain spreads throughout the abdomen. In this case, the patient needs to call an ambulance, and before the doctors arrive, put him to bed and put a cold compress on his stomach.

Gastric bleeding is also very dangerous, signs of which are tarry stools and vomit coffee-colored. Put the patient to bed and call an ambulance.

One of the main treatments for ulcers is dietary nutrition., and the strictest diet must be followed during periods of exacerbation of the disease. Eliminate coarse foods from the diet (foods that contain coarse vegetable fiber - cucumbers, cabbage, foods that are rich in connective tissue - poultry skin, fish, stringy meat, lard, and fried foods), pickles, hot and cold foods, smoked meats, meat broths, marinades, mushroom and fish decoctions, coffee, carbonated drinks, cocoa, pepper, horseradish, mustard, vinegar.
